The small grants programme will invest in local voluntary, community or social enterprise (VCSE) sector-led community based activity which will engage and support economically inactive residents, address underlying barriers and support provision towards employment, skills, education, training and mainstream support services.

Groundwork – North East Economic Inactivity Trailblazer VCSE Small Grants programme

Funding pots of between £40,000 and £70,000 are available to VCSE organisations in the North East of England, with a total allocation of £800,000 to be awarded
Applications are open from Monday 3 August and will close at 11.59pm on Thursday 20 August 2026
All projects must be completed by 31 March 2027
Project themes can include:
Women,Young people (aged 16-24), People who are neurodivergent, People who are disabled
People experiencing poor mental or physical health, People living within areas of high deprivation or limited service access, Social housing tenants, Carers
